Hi, I'm Katie.

About Me

From the warehouse floor to the QA queue.

I recently completed my Associate degree in Computer Information Science. Before transitioning into technology, I spent many years in warehouse operations, where I developed strong attention to detail, process improvement skills, and experience training others. I'm now focused on building software quality, data analysis, and web development skills, and I bring that same operational rigor to every test case, query, and page I ship.

I studied music at Truman State before my path led me into tech, so I've always thought in terms of practice, iteration, and getting the details right. Those habits translate directly into QA work.

CliftonStrengths

How I naturally work.

My top five CliftonStrengths (Gallup) themes. Two of them map directly onto QA work: diagnosing what's wrong and helping people improve.

01

Restorative

Drawn to problems: good at spotting what's broken and working through it methodically until it's fixed.

02

Developer

Notices small signs of progress in people and gets energy from helping others grow and improve.

03

Adaptability

Comfortable going with the flow and adjusting as things change, rather than needing a fixed plan.

04

Ideation

Energized by ideas: quick to spot connections between things that don't obviously relate.

05

Intellection

Thinks things through deliberately and enjoys reflective, in-depth conversation.

Projects

Work that's actually live.

Three shipped websites: designed, developed, deployed, and maintained end to end, including hosting and domain management.

SQL Portfolio

Querying, checked twice.

A normalized MySQL database built to compare pet product prices, delivery times, and availability across nine retailers, designed, populated, and queried from the ground up.

Status: Complete Personal Project · July 2026

Shopping Tracker Database

A relational database comparing pet product prices across nine retailers (Walmart, Petco, Chewy, Amazon, and more). Built three normalized tables linked by primary and foreign keys, populated them with real product and pricing data, then wrote queries ranging from basic filtering to window functions, CTEs, and views to answer questions like which store is cheapest for a given product and which retailers offer the fastest delivery.

  • MySQL
  • Joins
  • Subqueries
  • CASE
  • Window Functions
  • CTEs
  • Views

BASIC

Basic Queries

SELECT, WHERE, ORDER BY, and LIMIT: filtering products by category and food type, searching by keyword, and sorting results.

INTERMEDIATE

Intermediate Queries

INNER JOIN across all three tables plus COUNT, AVG, MIN, MAX, GROUP BY, and HAVING: average price per store, product counts by category, and stores with the fastest average delivery.

ADVANCED

Advanced Queries

Subqueries, CASE statements, a ROW_NUMBER() CTE to find the cheapest store per product, RANK() to rank stores by average price, and a reusable ProductPriceComparison view.

Excel & Power BI

Dashboards and data, made readable.

Seven Power BI reports built on the Shopping Tracker Database, using the same pricing data from the SQL project, turned into visual comparisons a non-technical stakeholder can scan at a glance.

Pet Shopping Tracker · Power BI Dashboard

Connected Power BI directly to the Shopping Tracker Database schema and built seven focused reports: average price by brand, category, product, and store; product counts by category and by store; and a sortable cheapest-store-by-product matrix.

PRICE

Pricing Analysis

Average price broken down by brand, category, and individual product, showing where the expensive brands and categories actually are.

STORE

Store Comparison

Average price per store and product counts per store: which retailers run cheap, and which carry the widest selection.

MATRIX

Cheapest Store by Product

A sortable table matching every product to its lowest recorded price, store, and estimated delivery time.

QA Portfolio

The evidence behind "it works."

Revisiting the Indian Creek Cycle Rentals capstone from a tester's perspective: structured test cases, exploratory sessions, documented defects, and regression tracking.

Fixes Verified · July 2026

Indian Creek Cycles · QA Testing

An independent QA pass on Indian Creek Cycle Rentals, covering both the public site and the admin features: 19 manual test cases, plus exploratory testing that surfaced six defects, from a revenue total on the admin dashboard that didn't match its own breakdown page, to navigation that breaks at high browser zoom. All six were fixed and passed regression testing.

PLAN

Test Plan

Scope, testing approach, environments, and success criteria for the admin dashboard, bike/reservation management, accessories, reviews, and role-based permissions.

TC

Test Cases

19 manual test cases spanning smoke, functional, negative, responsive, accessibility, visual, and regression testing, tracked in a structured spreadsheet.

BUG

Bug Reports

Six defects documented with severity, steps to reproduce, expected vs. actual results, and suggested fixes, from a dashboard metric miscount to accessibility issues at high browser zoom and with keyboard-only navigation. All six fixed and verified.

EXP

Exploratory & Regression

An exploratory session charter plus targeted accessibility testing that surfaced six defects total, and a completed regression cycle: 21/21 test cases passing, all six defects closed.
